Assignment 2
The role of a nurse leader as a knowledge worker
Reflect on the concepts of informatics and knowledge work as presented in the Resources. Consider a hypothetical scenario based on your own healthcare practice or organization that would require or benefit from the access/collection and application of data. Your scenario may involve a patient, staff, or management problem or gap.

NURS 6051N

1. In this Discussion, you will consider a scenario that would benefit from access to data and how such access could facilitate both problem-solving and knowledge formation.

To Prepare:

Reflect on the concepts of informatics and knowledge work as presented in the Resources.

Consider a hypothetical scenario based on your own healthcare practice or organization that would require or benefit from the access/collection and application of data. Your scenario may involve a patient, staff, or management problem or gap.

Part 2:

Assignment: The Nurse Leader as Knowledge Worker

The term “knowledge worker” was first coined by management consultant and author Peter Drucker in his book, The Landmarks of Tomorrow (1959). Drucker defined knowledge workers as high-level workers who apply theoretical and analytical knowledge, acquired through formal training, to develop products and services. Does this sound familiar?

Nurses are very much knowledge workers. What has changed since Drucker’s time are the ways that knowledge can be acquired. The volume of data that can now be generated and the tools used to access this data have evolved significantly in recent years and helped healthcare professionals (among many others) to assume the role of knowledge worker in new and powerful ways.

In this Assignment, you will consider the evolving role of the nurse leader and how this evolution has led nurse leaders to assume the role of knowledge worker. You will prepare a presentation with an info graphic to educate others on the role of nurse as knowledge worker.

Yoost, Barbara L., Msn RN CNE Anef, and Lynne R. Crawford. Fundamentals of Nursing E-Book: Active Learning for Collaborative Practice. Elsevier Health Sciences, 2022.

To Prepare:

Review the concepts of informatics as presented in the Resources.

Reflect on the role of a nurse leader as a knowledge worker.

Consider how knowledge may be informed by data that is collected/accessed.

The Assignment:

Explain the concept of a knowledge worker.

Define and explain nursing informatics and highlight the role of a nurse leader as a knowledge worker.

Develop a simple infographic to help explain these concepts.

NOTE: For guidance on infographics, including how to create one in PowerPoint, see “How to Make an Infographic in PowerPoint” as presented in the Resources.

Present the hypothetical scenario you originally shared in the Discussion Forum. Include your examination of the data that you could use, how the data might be accessed/collected, and what knowledge might be derived from that data. Be sure to incorporate feedback received from your colleagues’ replies.

ORDER NOW FOR CUSTOMIZED, INSTRUCTION-COMPLIANT PAPER – Knowledge Worker And Nursing Informatics

In this Assignment, you will consider the evolving role of the nurse leader and how this evolution has led nurse leaders to assume the role of knowledge worker. You will prepare a PowerPoint presentation with an infographic (graphic that visually represents information, data, or knowledge. Infographics are intended to present information quickly and clearly.) to educate others on the role of nurse as knowledge worker.

Reference: Drucker, P. (1959). The landmarks of tomorrow. New York, NY: HarperCollins Publishers.

NOTE: For guidance on infographics, including how to create one in PowerPoint, see “How to Make an Infographic in PowerPoint” presented in the Resources.

Your PowerPoint should Include the hypothetical scenario you originally shared in the Discussion Forum. Include your examination of the data that you could use, how the data might be accessed/collected, and what knowledge might be derived from that data. Be sure to incorporate feedback received from your colleagues’ responses.
A good example of a scenario that would benefit from access to data is a case where a healthcare centre wants to know the number of patients visiting on a daily basis so as to establish whether the available staff is enough. Data of this nature can be collected by registering all the patients that come to seek medical services on a daily basis for a period of one month. Upon registering the patient, the data might be stored in the computer and retrieved when needed. The only people that will be allowed to access such information are the staff members (McGonigle, 2017).

The specific knowledge that will be derived from the data on a number of the patient visit is information on whether there is a shortage of labour force. In any case, the health facility will, for instance, establish that the number of patients visiting the facility is too high when compared to the available number of nurses; this will be taken to mean that there is a staff shortage. It will also be interpreted to mean that the current staff is being overworked and so the quality of health services being provided is more likely to be compromised (Sweeney, 2017).

A nurse leader can use clinical reasoning and judgment in the formation of knowledge from this experience to approximate the overall performance of the health facility being managed. The nurse leader could for example reason that since the health facility is understaffed, it may not be performing well. The nurse leader could judge that the patient feedback is more likely to be negative suggesting poor performance. This is due to the fact that feedback from the patients is one of the tools used to tell whether a health facility is performing well or not (McGonigle, 2017).

A study by the United States government shows that over the past years, human activities have been contributing to climate change not only in the US but also in other countries. Two main concerns as a result of global climate change in the United States are drought and increased raised in water sea level (Gergel, Nijssen, Abatzoglou, Lettenmaier & Stumbaugh, 2017). The two main regions in the United States experiencing drought are the Midwest and Southern parts. Climate experts in the United States indicate that the Western part of the country has been having less rainfall in the past 50 years. Weather specialists indicate that if the climate continues to change, other parts of the country will start experiencing this drought challenge.
One impact that drought is creating in the United States is the reduced production of agricultural products. The reason why agricultural production is reducing is that most extensive farming activities rely on rainfall water (Gergel, Nijssen, Abatzoglou, Lettenmaier & Stumbaugh, 2017). Since climate change has affected the rain patterns, these farmers are experiencing challenges as they seek other alternative sources of water. The other concern of climate change in the United States is the rising sea level in the coastlines. The rising sea level is a result of climate heat up that is melting the glaciers, melting of the sea ice, and diminishing snow cover. The United States government needs to address concerns since they are a major threat to the country. Increased shortage of water can continue affecting agricultural production resulting in famine. The rising seawater level can affect the residents along the coastlines and the water may end up displacing these residents.
Another developed country experiencing challenges of global climate change in Russia. Climate change has occurred mainly in these developed countries due to industrial activities such as the emission of carbon gas and other harmful gaseous materials in the atmosphere. Global climate change has affected Russia’s weather patterns mainly precipitation and the country’s average temperature (Anisimov & Orttung, 2019). The two major concerns as a result of climate change in Russia is increased temperature especially in the northern latitudes and increased health risks as a result of increased temperatures.
Russians weather experts have discovered that the average temperature annually has been rising by over 0.4 degrees Celsius every decade in the Western parts of the country (Anisimov & Orttung, 2019). The increased temperature has resulted in severe changes in the country such as melting of ice cover especially in the northern parts. Glaciers in mountain areas are melting creating changes in the sea drainage basin of the country. In terms of health risks, climate change has resulted to increase in heat intensity from the sun in summer and spring. Direct heat from the sun has heat waves that affect the human skin creating severe disorders in the human body.
Therefore, the national government of Russia has developed strategies to address these two major concerns due to climate change. Failing to address these two climate concerns will result in drought in the future and human health will be at greater risk of diseases such as skin cancer. One of the strategies that the Russian government has taken in addressing these climate concerns is creating awareness among public members concerning how citizens can protect themselves from dangerous heat waves (Anisimov & Orttung, 2019). Another strategy is that the government has enforced regulations on industrial activities that result in the emission of harmful gases contributing to climate change.
Global climate change has not only affected the developed countries but also undeveloped countries that are experiencing the negative impact of climate change. There is a relationship that exists between poverty and climate change since climate change affects low-income communities in developing countries. However, undeveloped countries are not only victims of climate change but also, have contributed to global climate change. Research shows that developing countries have contributed 63 percent of carbon emissions in the atmosphere (Hambira, Saarinen & Moses, 2020). Most of these undeveloped countries are African countries and the most affected country in Botswana.
Over the past years, key climate elements; rainfall, and temperature in Botswana have changed significantly. Change in these key elements has resulted in two main concerns: drought and dangerous heat waves (Hambira, Saarinen & Moses, 2020). Drought has resulted in a shortage of water in the country due to annual low rainfall. Water is an essential resource in such a developing country since water is a driver in various economic activities such as agriculture and industrial production. Also, the shortage of water has affected the health lives of Botswana citizens. The second concern is as a result of dangerous heat waves affecting the human skin directly. These dangerous heat waves are directly coming from the sun due to the presence of carbon and other gases in the atmosphere. These gaseous substances have affected the Ozone layer that is responsible for absorbing direct heat waves from the sun.
The government of Botswana needs to develop strategies on how they can solve drought and dangerous heat waves. Failing to address these two issues will result in cases of food shortage due to drought and human health will be at greater risk due to the direct heat waves. One strategy that the government of Botswana can implement to address the issue of drought is coming up with alternative sources of water that will supply water to citizens continuously. Concerning the issue of direct heat waves, the national government of Botswana can create health awareness of how its citizens can keep themselves healthy from the heat waves.
Public health nurses can implement several health promotional strategies that can act as solutions to the challenges of global climate change. One strategy that public health nurses can play in mitigating global climate change is through mobilization (Lilienfeld, Nicholas, Breakey & Corless, 2018). Nurses are in a good position to mobilize and inform members of society to respond to climate change. Also, nurses can address government officials in advocating for climate change measures. Another strategy nurses can implement in addressing the challenges of global climate change is through research (Lilienfeld, Nicholas, Breakey & Corless, 2018). Nurses can carry out studies by identifying various issues in the environment that can affect the environment negatively.

The following conversation is based on an article about Corona Virus, a modern infectious disease that is spreading over the world. Tanu Singhal’s article, ‘A Review of Coronavirus Disease-2019 (COVID-19),’ provides comprehensive information on the emergence and transmission of Coronavirus Disease-2019 (Covid-19). A unique virus known as Severe-Acute-Respiratory-Syndromic-Virus (SARS) is responsible for Corona Virus sickness, which affects the respiratory system, according to Singhal (2020). (SARS-CoV 2). In September of this year, medical professionals in Wuhan, China, discovered the virus during an out-of-office break in the city.
Tanu Singhal adds that by the end of January 2020, the Corona Virus had spread across a large area, prompting the World Health Organization to designate the virus a global health emergency. “Corona Virus is a global health emergency,” says Tanu Singhal. As of the end of February 2020, the Corona virus disease was spreading around the world in some parts of the world (Singhal, 2020). Following the disorder’s widespread spread, the World Health Organization categorizes the condition as a global pandemic requiring immediate medical intervention. It was COVID-19, which comes from the word Corona Virus 2019, that the World Health Organization assigned to this condition induced by SARS-CoV2.
The article goes on to discuss how the Corona Virus can spread from one person to another by respiratory droplets and various forms of physical contact involving bodily fluids, among other things. Medical researchers in China conducted research and determined that more than 75000 instances of Corona Virus were as a result of transmission through the respiratory system (Killerby, Biggs, Midgley, Gerber & Watson, 2020). Transmission through the respiratory system happens when an infected individual comes into close contact with another who is Corona Virus positive, and this transmission is aided by the symptoms of Corona Virus infection, such as coughing and sneezing. Another way to get the Corona Virus is by contact with infected individuals or by being in the same environment as them.
According to the literature, there is a relationship between the Covid-19 causal agent, susceptible individuals, and the environmental factors that contribute to the outbreak. Due to the fact that a person’s health status influences the transmission of the causative agent to that individual, there is a relationship between the three factors. Certain environmental factors, on the other hand, are influencing the spread of Covid-19’s causal agent, according to the researchers. In terms of susceptible individuals, the elderly and those suffering from chronic illnesses such as chronic respiratory ailments, heart disease, cancer, and diabetes are at a particularly high risk of getting SARS-CoV2 (Kleen, Galdon, MacDonald & Dalgleish, 2020). According to recent research, older persons in several nations are more vulnerable to Covid-19 hazards than their younger counterparts. It is the physiological changes that occur with age that are the most significant factor in increasing the chance of contracting Covid-19’s causative agent in the elderly population. These physiological changes have a negative impact on the health of these elderly people, exposing them to various disorders that are not related to Covid-19. Aging is a biological age characterized by the continuous damage of cells in various parts of the body, some of which are responsible for keeping the body safe from disease-causing organisms, and some of which are responsible for maintaining the body’s ability to fight disease (Kleen, Galdon, MacDonald & Dalgleish, 2020). If this cellular damage continues, the body’s ability to fight external infections, such as the causal agent of Covid-19, will deteriorate. When it comes to older people, a weakened immune system is the primary reason why the Covid-19 causal agent will be more prevalent. SARS-CoV-2 survival on surfaces is influenced by a variety of environmental factors, according to research findings. For example, SARS-CoV-2 is unable to survive for more than three days on surfaces that are directly exposed to the sun. The reason why the Covid-19 causal agent cannot survive on such surfaces is that the extreme intensity of sunlight causes the Covid-19 causal agent to become inactive, which makes it impossible for it to survive (Dabisch, Schuit, Herzog, Beck, Wood, Krause & Ratnesar-Shumate, 2021). As a result of this action of sunlight, it is possible that the proliferation of the Covid-19 causative agent in locations with long periods of sunlight will be limited in these areas. Tropical regions, for example, experience high levels of light intensity throughout the year and should be considered. The flow of air is another environmental component that may have an impact on the dissemination of the Covid-19 causative agent. Even though people are thousands of miles apart, the air conditioner and wind direction have an impact on the propagation of droplet illnesses. Infected areas can be reached by strong airflow from an area having remnants of the Covid-19 causative agent, enabling the spread of the Covid-19 virus to uninfected areas.
Despite the fact that medical practitioners have not yet discovered a direct cure for Corona Virus, public health nurse leaders can play a vital role in reducing the spread of the Covid-19 virus infection. Finding, reporting, collecting, and analyzing medical information on the Corona Virus is one of the most important roles nurse leaders may play in this area. Nurse leaders can be successful in Covid-19 research if they use modern medical resources to accomplish their goals. One of the medical research tools is the evidence-based practice paradigm, which allows them to interact with patients who are recovering from Corona Virus. This is one of the medical research tools (Xu, Yang, Du, Peng, Hu, Wang & Chang, 2020). Applying the evidence-based model on Covid-19 patients can assist nurse leaders to understand the nature and development of Covid-19.
The development of viable mitigating techniques to limit the spread of Covid-19 among the general public can also be done by medical professionals. One of these tactics is to provide health education to members of the public on topics such as safety precautions and personal cleanliness. Health education can have a long-term impact because it can demonstrate to people of the community how proper concepts of cleanliness can become a part of their everyday lives (Gray, Kurscheid, Mationg, Williams, Gordon, Kelly & McManus, 2020). Providers of rapid remedies to patients suffering from ailments related with Covid-19 is another technique that may be implemented by health professionals. However, the Corona Virus is causing complications and the most serious complication is a type of pneumonia known as the 2019 novel Corona Virus-infected Pneumonia (NCIP). Another strategy that medical practitioners can develop to address the spread of Covid-19 is coming up with alternative medical services that will reduce physical contact, especially in health facilities. A good example of an alternative healthcare service door to door services where nurses will treat patients from their homes.

Survey of Windshields and Evaluation of the Community
Greetings and Welcome to the Community
The neighborhood of Chinatown in San Francisco has been chosen. The year 1848 saw the establishment of the first Chinatown in North America (US. Census Bureau, 2016). The enclave is the most populous Chinese community outside of Asia. Even though Chinatown has lost most of its culture, it has maintained its religious institutions, social groups, and language. Known for attracting more people than the Golden Gate Bridge, San Francisco’s Chinatown is a popular tourist destination (US. Census Bureau, 2016). Elderly immigrants decided to live in Chinatown because it is familiar to them and because it is a more cheap place to live. According to the United States Census Bureau, Chinatown has a population of 34,891 people as of the most recent census (US. Census Bureau, 2016). According to a report by the San Francisco Planning Department, Asians constitute 81 percent of the city’s population. The typical household income in Los Angeles is $25,909, whereas the median household income in San Francisco is $91,938. (US. Census Bureau, 2016). Almost a third of the population lives below the federal poverty line. In San Francisco, it is one of the most densely populated areas, with a population of over 200,000 people (US. Census Bureau, 2016). Chinatown has gone through a number of transformations, both culturally and commercially.
Tuberculosis is one of the health issues that the inhabitants are dealing with right now. Coughing or sneezing can spread the infectious disease, which damages the lungs and is spread from one person to another through tiny droplets of secretions (U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, 2020). Some of the signs and symptoms of the disease include: coughing for three weeks or longer, coughing up blood; accidental weight loss; exhaustion; fever; night sweats; and chest discomfort.

Results of the Windshield Survey
The results of the study in the town suggest that the streets and markets are packed. The Chinese are one of the most prominent ethnic groups in the area. The presence of temples and other places of worship in the area indicates that the Chinese are the majority ethnic group. Despite the widespread cautions regarding close contact owing to the epidemic, the marketplaces are nonetheless bustling with customers. One of the issues that exposes the public to the rising cases of tuberculosis in close contact is the issue of tuberculosis in close contact. Residents of Chinatown are at risk, according to the statistics, because they are among the minority who have not been fully immunized against the virus (Gao et al., 2021).
A visit to the hospital facilities reveals a snarl of persons seeking medical attention in the waiting rooms. The majority of those seeking medical attention are suffering from tuberculosis. The vast majority of those standing in line are coughing up dry mucus, which is a common indication of tuberculosis. People who come to seek medical attention are exposed to the risk of infection if social distance is not maintained between them and the person seeking medical attention (Louie et al., 2020). According to the findings, if the community does not adopt healthy living practices, the risk of illness may continue to increase indefinitely.
Description of the Vulnerable Population and the Resources That Are Available
The elderly, pregnant women, and children are among the most vulnerable members of society. People living with HIV/AIDS are at risk of infection from another group due to their weakened immune. Coronavirus infection increases the likelihood of acquiring complicated respiratory infections in those who have it (Gao et al., 2021). Because of congestion and close contact, the vulnerable population is at danger of contracting an infection at a rapid rate.
Healthcare staff as well as pediatric healthcare services are among the resources available to assist the most vulnerable members of society. Online resources such as the National Foundation for Infectious Diseases website and the Centers for Disease Control website are examples of others (Goosby et al., 2018). The resources are essential in informing the public and stopping the disease from spreading further.
The Vulnerable Population’s Demographic Characteristics
Children account for 4% of those suffering from the condition, making them the most vulnerable segment of the population. The dominating community accounts for more than 70% of all those who are affected by the condition (Goosby et al., 2018). Whites, for example, are in the minority and account for less than 5 percent of those who are infected with tuberculosis. According to statistics, men are more likely than women to get the condition, which may be linked to dangerous activities such as smoking. Sixty percent of the occurrences occur in adults between the ages of 25 and 64. (Goosby et al., 2018).
Social Determinants of Health and Well-Being
Working conditions, education, employment, education, and the social environment are all social determinants of health that must be considered. Communities in the area have low incomes, which results in limited access to healthcare services for residents (Daftary et al., 2018). Another factor is low literacy levels make the individuals ignorant of the predisposing factors such as smoking and close contact (Daftary et al., 2018). Unhealthy working places expose individuals to infections.
Strengths of the Community
The strengths include the availability of healthcare workers who have a high level of cultural competency. The area has sufficient healthcare facilities both private and public. The community offers social support to people with tuberculosis. For instance, the issue of stigma is not prevalent in the community.
Conclusion
The nursing assessment of Chinatown, San Francisco shows that the community is at risk of high infections of tuberculosis. Despite the community strengths, the close contact and congestion in the markets and streets expose the community members to infections. The vulnerable groups include children, pregnant mothers, the elderly, and people with HIV/AIDs. The healthcare departments and pediatric care are essential to support systems to mitigate the negative outcomes of the disease. The community requires rigorous public education on how the disease spreads. A change of lifestyle and social interaction can mitigate the problem. Additional measures are necessary to prevent tuberculosis outbreaks in Chinatown due to the negative lifestyles.

Advance Nursing Practice Care of Patient in Family Care Setting
Please document the history questions you would ask the patient.
The history questions are effective in generating information about the patient and their family. The first question is on the history of respiratory illness such as tuberculosis or pneumonia in the family. The second question is the length of time the patient has been smoking. The purpose is to evaluate the length of smoking since it increases the risk of illness. The third question is whether the patient has experienced a drenching night or persistent coughing. It is vital to ask the patient if they have been diagnosed with a respiratory illness in the past. History questions should ask the patient their experience in changing the weather or working in a dusty environment. The last question would be to enquire about past illness and current medication.
What Physical Exam would you obtain?
The physical examination for a patient with coughing involves the use of a stethoscope to listen to the breathing sounds. Abnormal breathing sounds will indicate a possible illness (Hardeland & Tan, 2020). Fluids in the air sacs, due to infection, make crackling or bubbling noises during their movement. A person with pneumonia has dull thuds which will indicate that there is fluid in the lung or indicate that the lung is collapsed (Hardeland & Tan, 2020). Wheezing sound is also noted if the airways are inflamed or narrowed.
What labs/diagnostics would you order?
The diagnostic tests necessary for the patient include a chest X-ray or CT scan. The purpose is to check for the observable signs of TB in the lungs. For instance, the X-ray will be used to examine for inflammation in the lungs (Shah et al., 2020). The tests can be used to check for sputum or bacteria that can cause various diseases such as pneumonia. Pulse oximetry will be essential in measuring the amount of oxygen in the lungs (Shah et al., 2020). Blood tests (CBC) the blood tests are used to examine if the body is fighting an existing infection. The diagnostic tests are effective in confirming the infection or ruling out possible infections that present similar symptoms (Shah et al., 2020).
List your top four differential diagnoses. List your rationale for your top diagnosis.
The differential diagnosis includes;
1. Bacterial pneumonia infection
2. Bronchogenic carcinoma
3. Brucellosis disease
4. Mycoplasma pneumonia
What is a CURB Score?
CURB score is a scoring system developed from a multivariate analysis of 1068 patients that indicates the various factors that lead to the mortality rate in a patient (Nguyen et al., 2020). The abbreviation stands for confusion, urea, respiratory rate, blood pressure.
When his labs come back, his CMP shows that his BUN is 21. Based on that information and on his presentation, what is his CURB score and how did you arrive at that score?
CURB-65 Score = 1. The score indicates that the patient has a low risk of respiratory illness such as pneumonia. The mortality risk is at least 2.7 percent at 30 days.
The score is arrived at by giving one point to each of the following prognostic features including confusion, raised blood urea, raised respiratory rate, low blood pressure, and age 65 or more (Nguyen et al., 2020). The stratification for the risk of death is as follows 0 or 1 shows a mortality risk of less than 3 percent, 2 is an intermediate risk of between 3-15 mortality risk, while 3 to 5 is a high mortality risk of above 15 percent (Nguyen et al., 2020).
Based on his CURB score, should he be treated on an outpatient or inpatient basis?
The CURB score shows that the patient does not experience a high mortality risk (Brabrand & Henriksen, 2018). The patient can be treated on an outpatient basis. Patients between 0 and 1 can be treated on an outpatient basis since the mortality risk is below three percent.
His chest x-ray does indeed show infiltrates. What is your treatment plan for him?
The patient requires warm fluids since hot beverages can offer relief from the mucus accumulation that can prevent appropriate breathing (Newman, 2018). The second intervention is steam which will help the airways to open up, decrease congestion, and coughing. N-acetylcysteine is effective in loosening the mucus in the respiratory system (Newman, 2018). Chest tube replacement can be injected into the pleura space to eliminate congestion or excess mucus (Newman, 2018).
Name 3 health promotion topics that you should discuss with him
The health promotion topics to discuss with the client include helping smokers to stop smoking and the need for safe public smoking spaces, increasing access to healthy foods, and exercising regularly, and lifestyle changes and behavior change for disease management (Gomes‐Filho et al., 2020). The topics are vital in improving behavior change and improving the quality of healthcare outcomes.
What is your follow-up plan?
The follow-up plan includes carrying out two sputum smear examinations, observing the response, and providing appropriate interventions. Another follow-up plan is chest radiograph and laboratory monitoring (Gomes‐Filho et al., 2020). It is essential to encourage the patient to stop smoking to avoid triggering the symptoms.

Diagnosis
Primary:
J18.9 Bacterial pneumonia- Bacterial pneumonia is an infection of the lungs caused by bacteria. The common bacteria is Streptococcus (pneumococcus). The bacteria can live in the lungs without causing illness (Hanada et al., 2018). The symptoms include coughing, fever, fatigue, loss of appetite, loss of energy, and shortness of breath. Patients experience a yellow or bloody cough (Hanada et al., 2018). Patients can contract bacterial pneumonia from various sources such as community or infected persons.
Differential:
J20.9 Acute bronchitis: Acute bronchitis is a viral infection that leads to inflammation of the bronchial tubes. Infection of the bronchial tubes leads to swelling and accumulation of mucus making it hard to breathe (Wopker et al., 2020). Symptoms include sore throat, coughing, mild headache, fatigue, and soreness of the chest. Breathing difficulties can put the patient at risk of death (Wopker et al., 2020).
J44. 9 Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease: COPD is a condition that leads to blockage of airways making it difficult to breathe. The symptoms include persistent coughing, shortness of breath, and wheezing (Agustí & Hogg, 2019). Patients with COPD experience chest pressure, dry cough, or phlegm.
J45 Asthma: Asthma is a condition that leads to the accumulation of mucus that blocks the airways. The accumulation leads to difficulty in breathing and causes a wheezing sound (Dharmage et al., 2019). The symptoms include shortness of breath, chest pain, cough with phlegm, and fatigue. The condition is triggered by various factors such as dust, pollen, or allergic materials. Patients need to avoid the triggers since they can undermine the health of a patient (Dharmage et al., 2019).
Z11. 1 Tuberculosis: TB is an infection of the lungs caused by Mycobacterium tuberculosis. The symptoms include night sweats, coughing, fever, loss of appetite, and shortness of breath (Harding, 2020). When individuals cough they dispel the germs that can lead to infections among people who inhale the air.
P. Treatment of bacterial pneumonia involves antibiotics. The patient to take amoxicillin 500mg three times a day. Patients to avoid going to public places to avoid spreading the disease. Examine the symptoms and report back to the clinic in case of abnormalities. Controlling the symptoms such as fever and inflammation is essential. Treatment at home involves taking sufficient fluids to loosen secretions. The patient should avoid taking cough medication without consulting a physician. In case the patient experiences fever, it would be important to take aspirin and ibuprofen. The patient to return to the clinic after two weeks for follow-up and evaluation. The treatment plan will include educating the patient about the symptoms and the need to take precautions. Breathing complications can put the patient at risk of death.

Justification of the Article
I would recommend the article in the nursing practice since it highlights some of the factors that influence decision-making. The factors include awareness, autonomy, situation, understanding the patient’s situation, and education. Nurses should be aware of the factors that influence their decision. The factors can influence the decisions positively or negatively.
Academic Success and Professional Development Plan
I will add the article to the academic resources that I will use to enhance my decision-making process in the nursing practice. My approach to identifying and analyzing peer-reviewed research is to find out the methodology, the theories, findings, and summary of the article. The information will help me to identify if an article is important in the nursing practice. One of the strategies that I used to locate the appropriate article is to find peer-reviewed resources in the university library. I had to set the parameters such as finding an article that is at least five years old and indicating that the article should be peer-reviewed. The second approach is to indicate the topic clearly to help me locate the appropriate materials.
The resource I intend to use in the future is by White et al. (2019). The article deals with the benefits of using decision-making to eliminate fear and anxiety among nurse students. The article is important to help nurses determine the best decisions without feeling anxious. The approach is effective in improving the quality of decisions and patient outcomes.

Article Justification
I would recommend the paper in nursing practice because it highlights some of the decision-making considerations. Factors include self-awareness, autonomy, situation, and education. Nurses should be aware of their decision-making variables. Factors can positively or negatively impact decisions.
Academic and Professional Success Plan
I will add the paper to my academic resources to improve my nursing decision-making process. To locate and analyze peer-reviewed research, I look for the article’s methodology, theories, findings, and summary. The data will help me determine an article’s relevance to nursing practice. Finding peer-reviewed resources in the university library was one of my tactics for finding the right article. I had to specify parameters like identifying a five-year-old article that should be peer-reviewed. The second method is to explicitly indicate the topic.
I’ll be using White et al. in the future (2019). The article discusses using decision-making to reduce fear and anxiety in nursing students. The article is vital in assisting nurses in making sound decisions. The method improves decision-making and patient outcomes.

Academic and Career Plan Template

by:

Sally Corbin, RN

17 Jan 2020

In today’s business world, advanced preparation is critical to achieving academic and professional success. Professional and academic success depends heavily on the network built. The network consists of specialized team members and individuals who contribute to academic and professional achievement in medicine (Siciliano et al., 2018). So, this paper outlines numerous academic and professional connections that have helped me succeed academically and professionally as a practicing nurse.
For example, my academic performance as a nurse practitioner would be dependent on my instructor and classmates’ support. It would be motivating as a Registered Nurse and Nurse Practitioner to have professors and peers help guide the study process. If I need help with research, study, or course completion, the instructor is always willing to help (Siciliano et al., 2018). Academic friends also help me succeed in class by helping me understand concepts that the instructor may not have covered.
Professionally, it is also important to establish relationships that can help you succeed at work. Having a strong network in the medical sector is critical to a successful career. Having a nurse and nurse practitioner mentor has also helped me become a good RN. The nurse practitioner would guide me through my practicals and rounds as a new nurse practitioner. The nursing mentor would choose what is best for me and how I may advance professionally. It also increases your chances of getting considered for future Nurse Practitioner Psychiatric positions.

A/P Networking Week 1 | Part 1

The academic and professional networks I have chosen to aid me through the Nurse Practitioner program are listed below. Each network member helps me advance my career.

MEMBER 1

Imtiaz Rsaul

Dr. Rsaul

Jacksonville Psychiatric Assoc.

Academic or Professional:

Why I chose this person/team and how they will help me succeed in the MSN program and as a nurse:

Dr. Rsaul is an adult and child psychiatrist. I chose him as my mentor because of his extensive psychiatric experience. His practical experience and skills can help me become a better Nurse Practitioner. As a former patient, he often maintained, “To obtain optimal health is to strive both physically and mentally.” Like Dr. Rsaul, I strive to be a nurse practitioner who treats all patients equally. Quality is indisputably important in all care interventions, and reviving the patient’s life is always necessary. I will guarantee that every patient appointment is tailored to their current and future health needs.

MEMBER 2

University of Walden

Facility & Staff

Walden University

Academic vs. Pro: Academic

Why I chose this person/team and how they will help me succeed in the MSN program and as a nurse:

I picked Walden University for its academic support. Instructors aid us along the way by delivering online education and training. With the instructor’s experience, we will learn the essentials of becoming a Nurse Practitioner (Acharya et al. 2017). The Walden University Staff provides support and tools for success.

NETWORK 3

Salutation to the personnel & facility

Facility & Staff

Welcome Home

Academic or Professional:

Why I chose this person/team and how they will help me succeed in the MSN program and as a nurse:

I chose Welcome Home because of their help. It is critical to have workplace support to advance in the job. Welcome home gives me the motivation and support I need to excel in school and in life (Jackson, 2017). They have inspired me to follow my dream of becoming a mental nurse practitioner.

MEMBER 4

NIMH

Facility & Staff

NIMH

Academic vs. Pro: Academic

Why I chose this person/team and how they will help me succeed in the MSN program and as a nurse:

The National Institute of Mental Health website provides Nurse Practitioners with career guidance and mental health information. This tool can help me read articles written by doctors who have conducted actual research. All of the techniques I’ve acquired can help me succeed as a nurse practitioner student.
Conclusion
The chosen professionals and academics are known to help me achieve my goal of being a successful practicing nurse. For example, in academics, professors and classmates guided me through the activities that were essentially encouraged to become one of the leading performers in medical classes (Jackson, 2017). Professionally, the chosen persons aided in adapting to professional procedures and evaluating the aims required to become a successful operator in hospitals (Siciliano et al., 2018). Having a strong network of professional and academic teams and individuals will help the nurse practitioner transition into her new career.

Week 2 | Resources and Strategies

In general, or in my specialty, I have identified the following academic resources and/or strategies.

Directions: Identify and describe three academic resources or methodologies relevant to the MSN program, and three professional resources relevant to nursing practice in general or your specialization in particular. Explain how you plan to use these tools academically and professionally.

RESOURCE/STRATEGY 1

My study plans will be based on my current employment and future career aspirations. I will use the Walden University Writing Center as an academic resource. My goal is to learn as much as I can about the nursing profession. Studying the writing center’s academic materials will help me increase my expertise. The writing center will also help me improve my writing skills by teaching me about different referencing techniques. Using the university writing center will help me learn a range of topics and finish my course quickly. Part 3: Promoting Academic Integrity and Professional Ethics

SCHOOLS/STRATEGY 2
My professors will be useful throughout my course. Our lecturers have access to academic resources and information essential for nursing success. Having them as a resource will help me obtain important information about becoming a registered nurse. My teachers can also help me choose the right policy and support groups for my study. To create positive relationships with the MSN course lecturers is my goal. So I can get all the help I need for my studies.

SCHOOLS/STRATEGY 3

My peers will be useful academic resources in my study. Because we are in the same course, my peers can help me understand various subjects. Working in groups helps us expand our understanding. So I will focus on building great peer relationships. Interacting with them and exchanging ideas and concepts about the MSN program will be required. Engaging other students will help me finish my nursing course.

RESOURCE/STRATEGY 1

My healthcare mentor is a registered nurse. Because my mentor has been a nurse for a long time, he knows exactly what to expect. The nurse practitioner mentor has dealt with many patients. Having a mentor is to help me make career decisions. He gives me excellent knowledge about field experiences that can help me improve my nursing profession.

RESOURCE/STRATEGY 2
The Welcome Home facility will also be used in my research. I’ll spend a lot of time learning about how nurses work in the company Thus, my hospital experiences will help me obtain knowledge and reassess my nursing skills. Understanding the field expectations as an RN practitioner would greatly enhance my nursing career. This facility will allow me to immediately engage in my nursing profession.

3 RESOURCES/STRATEGIES

My MSN program counselor will also be a career resource. My adviser has been working for a long time. During that time, he got valuable patient care experience. He has also gained important skills for job advancement. My main goal in working with my adviser is to learn new skills and knowledge. My objective of becoming a psychiatric nurse will be developed directly with my advisor.

Week 3 | Part 3: Promoting Academic and Professional Integrity

I examined the connections between academic integrity, writing, and professional practices and scholarly ethics. I have also found techniques to sustain academic and professional integrity and ethics throughout my MSN program and nursing career. The results are shown below.

Directions: Create your analysis/writing sample in the spaces below, including Part 1 (Academic and Professional Integrity) and Part 2. (Strategies for Maintaining Integrity of Work).

Part 1: Academic and Professional Integrity

Conclusion
The selected professional and academic individuals are known to make a successful push to my interest in becoming a successful practicing nurse. For instance, in the academic field, the individuals such as instructors and peers played a sensitive role in guiding me through the practices that were essentially encouraged to become one of the leading performers in the medical classes (Jackson, 2017). In the professional contexts, the selected individuals also played a significant role in becoming a successful nurse by helping adapt to the professional practices and considering the intentions necessary in becoming a successful operator in the hospitals (Siciliano et al., 2018). Therefore, having a strong network of professional and academic teams and individuals would be instrumental when transitioning into the nurse practitioner’s new role.

Statement of Professional Objectives
Providing care to patients who rely on healthcare staff to provide them with excellent, safe, efficient, inexpensive, and satisfactory care is a major responsibility of a nursing job. I will make every effort to use lessons learned from past positions in order to provide exceptional service. Students will be inspired to provide care to their patients if they embrace the ever-changing world of nursing, which is my goal. The goal is to provide the students with the ability to embrace a responsive mind to the changes in the delivery of health care. I intend to utilize the lessons learned from the National League of Nurses and to adhere to the ethical code of conduct entrenched in the nursing code of ethics and professional conduct. The scope of nursing practice encompasses a variety of values, including trust, autonomy, accountability, knowledge, inquiry, advocacy, and high-quality patient-centered care. I will encourage the students to learn about the dynamics of care delivery through classroom instruction and hands-on practice.
As a nurse educator, I will establish an environment that is conducive to learning and encourages collaboration. I will challenge the students to apply evidence-based practice to propose solutions for the problems that are currently being faced by the community. I will instill in my students the need of lifelong learning as well as the importance of reviewing therapeutic strategies to ensure that they are appropriate for the patients’ needs. I am looking forward to beginning my journey in the education discipline, which will include theory, lecture, student government, policy, and curriculum development, among other things.
The Scholarship Model Developed by Boyer
Boyer’s model for scholarship is an academic concept that advocates for the expansion of the standard notion of scholarship beyond its customary boundaries. The concept is comprised of four primary components: discovery, application, integration, and education, among others (Renwick et al., 2020). The approach provides nurses with a paradigm that incorporates a scholarly method of evaluating staff efforts to improve patient outcomes. Professional development programs as well as an employee portfolio are among the plans. The model’s primary goal is to foster intellectual activities while also properly identifying qualified candidates for scholarship awards and grants (Renwick et al., 2020).

In this paper, we refer to Renwick et al. (1999), Selkrig et al. (2001), Manathunga et al. (2001), and Keamy et al. (2001). (2020). The importance of community engagement is…: A look back at Boyer’s concept of scholarship. University of California Press, Higher Education Research & Development, 39(6), 1232-1246.

Competencies for NLN Nurse Educators
Competency 1: Assist in the facilitation of learning
I will encourage learning by fostering a welcoming environment in which students can ask questions and receive answers (Summers, 2017). I intend to convey the material in an audiovisual format in order to improve memory retention. I will urge students to form discussion groups, participate in question and answer sessions, and participate in debates.
Competency 2: Assist in the development and socialization of learners

What strategies will you use to aid in the development and socialization of learners?
I will establish a favorable environment in which nurses and learners can reflect on their responsibilities and set professional goals for their future (Fitzgerald et al., 2020). The use of technology in the delivery of knowledge, such as PowerPoint presentations and films, is something I intend to do.
Assessment and evaluation strategies are used in the third competency.
To examine and evaluate the performance, I will utilize a variety of assessment and evaluation tools. The orientation validation procedure and summative feedback at the end of the orientation are two examples of tools (Keating et al., 2020).
Competency 4: Contribute to the development of curriculum and the evaluation of program outcomes
To guarantee that students learn, recall, and apply critical thinking abilities, the curriculum design should be student-centered (Simmons, 2021). Patient needs will be addressed through the development of important nursing outcomes by myself and my team.
Competency 5: Act as a change agent and a leader in the organization
I will serve as a role model for cultural awareness, assess organizational effectiveness, and contribute to initiatives to meet healthcare and educational needs (Simmons, 2021). As a nurse, I will seek to improve my leadership abilities and fight for the inclusion of nurses in policy creation and change initiatives.
The pursuit of continuous quality improvement in the role of nurse educator constitutes Competency 6.
As new professional development opportunities arise, I intend to take advantage of them, to use personal assessments to improve my performance, to become certified as a nurse educator, and to pursue an advanced degree to expand my practice (Keating et al., 2020).
Competency 7: Participate in scholarly activities
I intend to take advantage of this chance to evaluate extensive studies on evidence-based teaching and research. Scholarship opportunities will be increased as a result of the research (Keating et al., 2020).
Competency 8: Interact with and function within the educational setting
I intend to learn as much as I can about the educational context in which nurses work. The purpose of this study is to gain an understanding of the cultural changes that are impacting the function of a nurse now and in the future. I will strive to understand the historical forces behind nursing education (Fitzgerald et al., 2020).

Title: Evidence-Based Project
Paper instructions:
Assignment: Evidence-Based Project, Part 4: Recommending an Evidence-Based Practice Change
The collection of evidence is an activity that occurs with an endgame in mind. For example, law enforcement professionals collect evidence to support a decision to charge those accused of criminal activity. Similarly, evidence-based healthcare practitioners collect evidence to support decisions in pursuit of specific healthcare outcomes.
In this Assignment, you will identify an issue or opportunity for change within your healthcare organization and propose an idea for a change in practice supported by an EBP approach.
To Prepare:
• Reflect on the four peer-reviewed articles you critically appraised in Module 4, related to your clinical topic of interest and PICOT.
• Reflect on your current healthcare organization and think about potential opportunities for evidence-based change, using your topic of interest and PICOT as the basis for your reflection.
• Consider the best method of disseminating the results of your presentation to an audience.
The Assignment: (Evidence-Based Project)
Part 4: Recommending an Evidence-Based Practice Change
Create an 8- to 9-slide narrated PowerPoint presentation in which you do the following:
• Briefly describe your healthcare organization, including its culture and readiness for change. (You may opt to keep various elements of this anonymous, such as your company name.)
• Describe the current problem or opportunity for change. Include in this description the circumstances surrounding the need for change, the scope of the issue, the stakeholders involved, and the risks associated with change implementation in general.
• Propose an evidence-based idea for a change in practice using an EBP approach to decision making. Note that you may find further research needs to be conducted if sufficient evidence is not discovered.
• Describe your plan for knowledge transfer of this change, including knowledge creation, dissemination, and organizational adoption and implementation.
• Explain how you would disseminate the results of your project to an audience. Provide a rationale for why you selected this dissemination strategy.
• Describe the measurable outcomes you hope to achieve with the implementation of this evidence-based change.

• Add a lesson learned section that includes the following:
o A summary of the critical appraisal of the peer-reviewed articles you previously submitted
o An explanation about what you learned from completing the Evaluation Table within the Critical Appraisal Tool Worksheet Template (1-3 slides)
These are the four articles that I sued for my critical appraisal. Use this information to answer the above section in the assignment

Introduction
According to the research article by Martinengo et al. (2020), it is estimated that there are 800,000 successful suicide incidences globally per year. There is a need for proper assessment of patients for suicide ideations at all levels to ensure their safety. Patients who are poorly or not assessed for suicide might successfully commit suicide and hence loss of life that could have been prevented. Scholars, technologists, and clinicians have proposed different assessment techniques, including several steps that clinicians can use to ensure that the suicide element is identified while assessing a patient. In the table below, I analyze some of the articles where authors discuss research findings of suicide and assessment technique

Conceptual Framework

Describe the theoretical basis for the study (If there is not one mentioned in the article, say that here).**
The study was based on an investigation to establish the best way to assess suicide in individuals through suicide attempt information obtained from single-item self-report survey, multi-item self-report survey, and face-to-face clinical interview. Suicide rates in veteran and military populations in the United States are high. In a research article by Ronald (2017), suicide rates in women veterans is at 35 per 100,000 which is wat higher than the civilian counterparts. Mental health services among Americas returning veterans have been identified as scarce leading to the high suicide rates. The research article reviews the accuracy of methods used to identify individuals who are veterans and are at a high risk of suicide. It also covers the healthcare interventions that have been implemented in the veteran population to tackle the suicide problem The research article assesses the use of technology to prevent suicide through mobile applications on Google play. These are applications that developed to assess depression and suicide risk in individuals Suicidal behavior are very complicated to determine and manage. There are a variety of elements including biological, physiological, psychological, and social aspects that could be the main causes of suicide behaviors in individuals. Suicide behaviors can also be linked to high-stress situations as well as changes in one’s lifestyle. (Castillo-Sánchez et al., 2020)
The article aims at identifying machine learning techniques used to predict suicide in individuals that use social networks
Design/Method

Describe the design and how the study was carried out (In detail, including inclusion/exclusion criteria). The research design was made of Non-experimental studies used to evaluate the relationship between suicide attempt history information that’s collected through a single-item self-report survey, multi-item self-report survey, and face-to-face clinical interview. Inclusion was based on participants’ endorsement of a suicide attempt history on a prescreening survey. Excluding those who did not endorse past suicidal attempt on the survey screening. This research study was based on trials, observational studies, and systematic reviews that apply to U.S. veterans and military personnel. Databases including MEDLINE, PsycINFO, SocINDEX, and Cochrane are the main sources that were used to provide the required articles
Eligible studies in the research included veteran, military populations, and demographically comparable nonveteran adults ages 18 and older from the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, New Zealand, and Australia. A Systematic review was conducted on mobile applications developed to assess depression and suicidal ideations. The applications were got in Google Play for android platforms and Apple’s App Store. The Inclusion criteria was based on searching mobiles apps using key words, such as “depression,” “depressed,” “depress,” “mood disorders,” “suicide,” and “self-harm” launched or updated January 2019 since January 2017. To select the relevant studies on this topic, the authors defined the following inclusion criteria:
English language,
Types of studies: Research paper, Clinical Trial and Case Study.
Published from 2010 up until December 2019.
Focus on suicide.
The studies include algorithms or models to estimate suicide risk using the social network.

Sample/Setting

The number and characteristics of
patients, attrition rate, etc.
Participants involved in the research were undergraduate students (N = 100) selected for study. Participants were ranged in age from 17 to 24 (M = 19.1 years, SD = 1.4), and the sample was 67% female (n = 67) and 32% male (n = 32). The breakdown of self-identified race used was: 62% White, 19% Black, 10% Hispanic/Latino, 3% Asian/Pacific Islander, 4% Mixed Race, and 2% Other Race.

There was a total of 7,788 citations that were reviewed, 681 articles were selected for full-text review, and 37 studies met inclusion criteria. 2690 applications were got with the initial search of app stores. These are applications that were potentially relevant in this area of study. Only Sixty-nine applications met inclusion criteria and were systematically assessed.

Categorization of the applications shows 20 depression management apps that represent 29%, 3 depression management and suicide prevention apps that represent 4%, and 46 suicide prevention apps representing
67% The authors retrieved 426 articles in the search conducted in research databases. After eliminating the duplicates, 424 items were selected for screening.
Major Variables Studied

List and define dependent and independent variables The study was an investigation to compare the measurement of suicide attempt history using a single-item survey, multi-item self – report survey with follow-up questions, and a semi-structured face-to-face clinical interview.
Dependent variable: Types of suicide History Assessment
Independent Variable: Suicide History This article is reviewing accuracy of methods used in the identification of individuals at risk of suicide, the effectiveness and adverse effects of health care interventions relevant to united states veterans and military personals and to reduce reduce suicide and suicide attempts
Independent Variable: Suicide and Suicide attempts

Dependent variable: Suicide risk Assessment methods Independent variable: Suicide / Self harm Ideations
Dependent Variable: Mobile applications that help to meet the unmet needs of people at risk
The major variable of the research article are individual adherence of suicide prevention advice in the management of depression and the available suicide prevention applications. The article reviews the art on the literature concerning the use of machine learning methods for suicide detection on social networks. According to article, the dependent variable is the machine learning methods that include Prism, Decision Tree (DT), Naïve Bayes (NB), RF and SVM. The independent variable is the suicide ideations experienced by people at risk
Measurement
Identify primary statistics used to answer clinical questions (You need to list the actual tests done). 1.Undergraduates (N = 4,847) completed Screening Phase 1, a prescreening survey
2. Completed a follow-up self-report survey as part of Screening Phase 2.
3. Screening Phase 3, which included a brief, face-to-face clinical interview. Nineteen studies of risk assessment methods to identify individuals at increased risk of suicide or suicide attempts evaluated 19 different approaches that were identified.
The research study used several suicide risk assessment methods and models that use retrospective electronic records data and clinical/patient rates instruments
English Language Full- text articles that were considered relevant were examined by two authors one being a physician and the other a doctoral investigator
Systematic assessment of the mobile applications meeting the inclusion criteria.
There were 20 depression management apps representing 29%, 3 depression management and suicide prevention apps representing 4%, and 46 suicide prevention apps that represent 67%

Six applications (9%), including two apps available in both app stores and downloaded more than one million times each, provided an inaccurate crisis helpline number. 65/69 apps of the apps included emergency contact information which is 94%. Also 46/69 apps had direct access to a crisis helpline representing a 67%. The study assessed suicide risk assessment models in social networks.
Data Analysis Statistical or
Qualitative findings

(You need to enter the actual numbers determined by the statistical tests or qualitative data). The study conducted a three phase non- experimental investigation that included self-survey, screening Phase 2, 67% reported a past attempt and 33% reported no past attempts and phase 3 that involved face to face clinical interviews.

According to the research article, measures, interventions, outcomes, and study participants were too diverse to be combined in statistical meta-analysis, and conclusions are based on qualitative synthesis. The suicide assessment methods demonstrated sensitivity greater than or equal to 80% or area-under-the-curve values that is greater or equal to 70 in single studies
The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics. Chi-square test in case each category had more than ten variables and two-tailed Fisher’s exact test if any of the categories in the contingency table had less than ten variables. The significance level was chosen at p 0.05. Systematic review to identify relevant papers that use suicide risk assessment models in social networks.
Findings and Recommendations

General findings and recommendations of the research Using a single item self-report assessment while assessment history of suicide is a big challenge for the clinicians in classifying prior suicide behaviors
Clinicians should routinely incorporate follow-up questions during suicide assessments when an individual endorses a suicide attempt history. Suicide risk assessment methods are known to be sensitive predictors of subsequent suicide and suicide attempts in individuals; however, the frequency of incorrect positive results limits their clinical utility and does not quality to be a safety measure to be used in safety planning. 69 applications targeting depression and suicide prevention include all six evidence-based suicide prevention techniques.
According to research results, Apple and Google’s app stores, as well as the health application business, have failed to self-govern and ensure quality and safety.

Recommendation
Providing suicide prevention information, for example, governance levels should be differentiated according on the risks and benefits to app users. It is necessary to improve the quality of suicide risk prediction model reports in the social network to benefit the users.
Appraisal and Study Quality

Describe the general worth of this research to practice.

What are the strengths and limitations of study?

What are the risks associated with implementation of the suggested practices or processes detailed in the research?

What is the feasibility of use in your practice? The study provides quality insight on how to assess those at high risk of suicide attempt in clinical settings to ensure their safety.

Although the sample included a relatively large number of individuals belonging to a high-risk demographic group, data were only collected at a single institution.

Clinical staff would require more training and education on how to assess suicide using additional steps. This might be costly for organizations and the need to ensure that clinical staff agree with the new procedures.
My practice being a psychiatric hospital, suicide is a major issue in our patients and all clinicians are supposed to ensure that the screen patients using the available procedures and protocols.
The study provides information on the effectiveness of the suicide risk assessment in preventing suicide,
This review was limited by its focus on veteran and military populations in the United States, which may have excluded important studies in other populations. The article is crucial for policy making in the public health to provide governance on the metal health apps launched to ensure their usefulness in preventing suicide
Strengths
A severe and detailed systematic review methodology was applied in the search for those applications that fit the criteria. This was done by a specialized search engine capable of retrieving the maximum number of applications without any boarder country restrictions hence an increased generalizability of the required findings
Limitations
Due to the stringent inclusion criteria, applications that are targeting other mental health disorders or illnesses were missed

Only four app store categories were selected and used in the search. Apps in other app store categories were missed and not included

In-app paid applications were no assessed in the study

Risks associated with the suggested practices
Apps are technology based and face the problem of data security, hackers and Privacy. There should be good security measures to ensure that user information is safe The study provides insight on the possible use of social networks in prediction and prevention of suicide. The study is using social networks which are the main forms of communication in the current world.

Limitations
This paper is only reviewing those studies that focus primarily on suicide risks. The selected papers are using a scoping review methodology in only four research databases and written in English language and yet their other research studies that can be available in different languages and databases

Key findings

It has been established according to the research that Single-item suicide risk assessment is not sufficient to provide vital information about the individual behavior. It is therefore imperative to use follow up questions and assessments Risk assessments are crucial, however due to its high possibility of having false positivity does not make it a clinical applicable instrument There is a good number of applications that are technology based and offer suicide assessment and prevention strategies to individuals that are at risk. However, few of these have a comprehensive approach including the six strategies discussed in the article Social networks can provide a crucial platform to predict and prevent suicidal attempt.

Outcomes

The single item assessment is not sufficient to provide more information to predict the patient’s next move in terms of suicide or self-harm. The research study indicates the importance of suicide risk assessment in mentally ill patients and individuals at risk of suicide. However, there is a clear indication of failure to be applied successfully in clinical practice where there is much need to save lives There is a failure of Apple and Google app stores, and the health app industry in self-governance, and quality and safety assurance. Governance levels should be stratified by the risks and benefits to users of the app, such as when suicide prevention advice is provided. It is necessary to improve the quality of suicide risk prediction model reports in the social network to benefit the users.
General Notes/Comments The study provides information on how to handle those at risk of attempting suicide by using multiple item assessment and face to face interviews.
Further study is recommended to assess the individual intervention plans. The study recommends collaboration between public health and mobile apps developers to promote more stratified that can help prevent suicide. The study provides insight on the possible use of social networks in prediction and prevention of suicide.

Suicide is the most significant cause of mortality in the United States, particularly among teens and young adults, with almost one million people dying each year. As demonstrated in our study, single-item attempt history screening questions can help identify potentially suitable research subjects. Although a history of suicide attempts is one of the best indicators of the risk of suicide death, little is known about how suicide attempts are reported differently depending on the assessment method (Hom et al., 2016). Individuals’ classifications of previous suicidal behaviors may be challenged by a single-item self-report evaluation of suicide attempt history, especially if not accompanied by defined terminology. Multiple questions or answer alternatives and the use and presentation of well-defined, consistent definitions could all benefit from being included in surveys. In addition, when a person admits to a history of suicide attempts during a face-to-face examination, physicians may find it beneficial to ask follow-up questions. This is in line with studies that emphasize the value of combining self-report psychopathology assessments with clinician assessments, mainly to improve symptom accuracy.
Risk assessment approaches are good sensitive prophets to subsequent suicide and suicide attempts among individuals at risk. However, they are limited by the false positives irregularities that seem to on the high rise and causing doubt. These methods should be refined, and clinical applications should be investigated in the future study. Additional RCTs of promising individual therapies and site-randomized population-level interventions are needed to support suicide prevention programs, as there is inconclusive evidence to support their use. This is applicable in the practice because a patient can be issued a multi-level risk assessment survey to identify those at risk for further evaluation.

Evidence-Based Project, Part 4: Recommending an Evidence-Based Practice Change
The severity of the health outcomes indicates that there is need for change. The suicide rates are high and reducing them is a priority. The organization appreciates that changes are needed to address the suicide rates using elaborate healthcare assessment (Martinengo et al., 2019). There is need for comprehensive assessment of patients with suicide ideation. The leadership is ready for changes to address the suicide rates. The leadership appreciates the importance of changes in the healthcare assessment to address the prevailing problem.
The current problem in the healthcare sector is that the number of suicide cases are on the rise. The high number of suicide patients is leading to unpreventable deaths. The deaths can be prevented by improving the assessment of suicidal ideation (Martinengo et al., 2019). There is need for comprehensive assessment of patients with suicide ideation. The assessment measures include collecting comprehensive information about a patient. Lack of appropriate measures is the major cause of the prevailing problem.
Appropriate interventions are necessary to address the prevailing problem of a high number of suicide cases. One of the proposed ideas is to enhance assessment patients for suicide or suicidal ideation (Nelson et al., 2017). The method is appropriate since it will lead to better mechanisms to prevent the occurrence. The prevention measures include counseling and other psychotherapeutic interventions. Other ideas include follow-up self-report survey as part of screening and brief face-to-face clinical interview as part of screening.
Knowledge transfer in the healthcare sector is important in empowering the healthcare workers. One of the mechanisms of knowledge transfer is to organize training sessions. Training workshops will empower the nurses and physicians on what they need to know about suicide assessment (Castillo-Sánchez et al., 2020). The training methods will comprise training manuals and guides to empower the healthcare workers. Another plan is to use a patient assessment template to examine suicidal ideation.
The measurable outcomes include improved mechanisms to enhance the patient assessment. According to Hom et al. (2016) improving the patient assessment will lead to better outcomes of collecting data about patients at risk of suicide. Another measurable outcome is reducing the number of patients who die of suicide. Identifying the patients at risk will lead to better outcomes such as interventions to prevent suicide. The nurses and physicians will acquire advanced skills to assess patients for suicidal ideation.R

Lessons Learned
The lessons learned show that it is vital to assess patients comprehensively to identify suicidal ideation. Suicidal ideation assessment is a critical tool in the prevention of suicide. I learned that healthcare workers without appropriate training can miss to identify depressed patients at risk of suicidal ideation. For instance, Martinengo et al. (2019) describes suicide prevention using technology and the benefits of clinical guidelines while Hom et al. (2016) examines the limitations of single-item assessment. The studies recommend improvements in the assessment methods.

Complementary and Alternative Medicine

Complementary and Alternative Medicine
Complementary and alternative medicine are medicines and practices that are not part of the standard medical care. The medications have been effective in treatment of diverse conditions. Some of the popular alternative medicines include diet therapy, herbalism, acupuncture, alexander technique, aroma therapy, biofeedback, and chiropractic medicine. For instance, treatment of cancer has proven a challenging task without the use of CAM. The medications are used alongside conventional drugs.
Nurses face a challenge in providing CAM due to the risk of causing serious side effects on patients.
Nurses struggle with providing reciprocal and open communication (Winter & Korzenik, 2017).
Challenges involve selecting the appropriate medication and avoid useless practices.
Nurses struggle to implement an integrated evidence-based care plan (Winter & Korzenik, 2017).
Hospice care is a special type of care that focuses on the quality of life for people experiencing life-limiting conditions (Yadav et al., 2017).
Palliative care involves providing comfort with or without curative intent.
Hospice is providing comfort without curative intent after realizing a patient cannot survive the illness (Yadav et al., 2017).
Hospice starts after treatment is stopped while palliative care can start immediately after diagnosis.
The role of a nurse in caring for patients at the end of life involves supporting them and educating the family on what might happen.
Nurses should address their questions honestly, be an active listener, and provide emotional support, and guidance (Yadav et al., 2017).
One of the resources is the National Cancer Institute’s Office of Cancer Complementary and Alternative Medicine (Timmerman et al., 2018).
The resource is effective since it specializes in cancer treatment.
Mental health care nurse work with teams to assess and diagnose patients with mental illness.
Nurses help veterans to access quality and timely care (Muir‐Cochrane et al., 2018).
Nurses provide care and support patients to recovery.
Veterans with mental problems face diverse problems such as unemployment, depression, and alcoholism (Muir‐Cochrane et al., 2018).
Nurses provide comprehensive care and psychotherapy.
Nurses build relationships and trust with the veterans.
Emerging and Re-Emerging Diseases
Malaria is one of the re-emerging diseases in America.
A large percentage of the people affected by malaria have a history of traveling to an infected region (Green et al., 2020).
Despite close monitoring, approximately 1,500 – 2,000 cases are reported annually (Green et al., 2020).
Some of the infected regions include sub-Saharan Africa and South Asia.
American experiences Dengue outbreaks occasionally.
The debilitating mosquito-borne disease causes severe pain (Green et al., 2020).
The median age is 41 years and majority of the cases have a travel history to infected regions (Green et al., 2020).
Health care sector should respond by educating the public on how to deal with and prevent the illnesses.
A nurse has a role of educating patients about measures to prevent re-emerging diseases (Matthews et al., 2020).
For instance, patients should take precaution while traveling to infected regions.
Nurses should provide preventive medication to people at risk of infections (Matthews et al., 2020).
Role of Nurses
Nurses should advocate for effective policies to deal with emerging and re-emerging diseases.
Nurses have a duty to care for the patients infected with the disease.
Nurses should provide support for the patients with emerging or re-emerging diseases (Matthews et al., 2020).
Nurses should recommNurses have a responsibility to monitor the condition and provide appropriate interventions.
Nurses should track the data and develop preventive mechanisms (Matthews et al., 2020).
Healthcare workers should provide support to patients and collaborate with families to ensure continuity of care (Matthews et al., 2020).
